Mohamed Mohamed, PMHNP-BC

Founder & Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Board-Certified PMHNP (ANCC) Yale University School of Nursing Lifespan: children → adults Autism & ADHD focus

Mohamed is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, trained at the Yale University School of Nursing, and the founder of FirstLight Mental Health. He cares for patients across the entire lifespan, and found his deepest calling with children — especially those with autism and ADHD, and the families who advocate for them every day.

Many of the people he sees arrive feeling stuck: overwhelmed by worry, weighed down, or struggling to focus or feel like themselves. Mohamed takes time to understand each person as a whole — their story, their relationships, and their goals — not just their symptoms.

He founded FirstLight Mental Health around a simple frustration: families were waiting months for psychiatric care, and when they finally got in, visits were too short, too rushed, and rarely with someone who sees autism and ADHD every day. FirstLight is his answer: longer visits, careful prescribing, genuine partnership with parents, and coordination with the schools, therapists, and ABA teams already in a child's corner. When medication helps, it's one thoughtful part of a shared plan — never a reason for anyone to feel like just a diagnosis.

He knows how hard it can be to reach out, and that the first step matters most. He's committed to serving families who nearly gave up on finding care that truly understands them, and to making that care easier to reach.

What you can expect

  • Time. Sixty minutes for an evaluation, and follow-ups long enough to finish the conversation.
  • Shared decisions. You'll know what's being considered, why, and what the alternatives are.
  • Measurement. Standardized rating scales at intervals, so we can tell whether this is working.
  • Coordination. We talk to the other people on your team, with your permission.

What we believe

The values behind every visit.

Families are the experts

No one knows a child like their parents. We bring clinical training; you bring years of observation. Treatment plans are built together, or not at all.

Medication is a tool, not a reflex

When medication helps, it should be precise, monitored, and tied to goals you can see. When it isn't needed, we'll say so.

Culture is part of care

Stigma, language, faith, and family structure all shape how healing happens. Care that ignores them doesn't work. Ours doesn't ignore them.

The practice

Why FirstLight looks the way it does.

Longer appointments

Sixty minutes for an evaluation. Enough room to hear the whole history, not a fragment of it.

Documentation that helps

Reports and letters written so a school, university, or employer can actually act on them.

Family-centered

Parents are in the room and in the plan. Guidance sessions available without the child present.

Measured, not guessed

Standardized scales track whether treatment is working — and tell us when to change course.

We'd be honored to care for your family.
